The Be Still Retreat is an annual event for Christian women seeking to grow deeper in their relationship with Jesus Christ.  The biblical purpose of a retreat can be summed up in Psalm 46:10 “Be Still and Know that I am God.”  Discover the spiritual disciplines that will lead to the transformation of your soul.  Make time to meet with God through worship, prayer walks, personal Bible study and prayer, scheduled times of solitude and silence, spiritual conversations with sisters in Christ who join you in following Christ more nearly, knowing Him more clearly, and loving Him more dearly.

The spiritual disciplines are not a formula. They are an admission of our imperfection, our sloth, our whimsy. They are not a structure to condemn or guilt us; they are something beyond our human inconsistencies to which we can submit in our pursuit of Jesus. We know our ultimate calling: to love Christ and to love others. Spiritual disciplines provide a regular framework in which we can live out and foster this thrilling and satisfying call.”  ~ Sarah Scherf  Editorial Coordinator, Leadership Media Group (Gifted for Leadership Newsletter , http://www.christianitytoday.com/)

Sarah summarizes so well the concept of spiritual disciplines.  "They are not a formula, but they are a “furnace” like a desert which forges transformation—the goal of God and the fruit of the Spirit and the joy of Jesus.  The problem with most of us is we are afraid to spend time alone…and alone with God is even scarier!"  This retreat begins to teach and lead and help women become comfortable with solitude, silence, study, submission, discernment, quieting our hearts and focusing our minds upon the disciplines required to become more devoted disciples of Jesus Christ.

Take root downward, bear fruit upward!

In order for a trees root system to survive in the desert, it must extend its roots toward a water source.  As young saplings or mighty oaks, Christ is the teacher of both surviving and thriving in the most difficult deserts, in the most burdensome trials and in the deepest darkness.  Henri Nouwen says “Solitude is the furnace of transformation.”

My best times with Jesus are when I am “alone with Him.”  He helps me see what He sees.  He teaches me how to be a green tree in the desert!  Women of all ages are thirsty for real water, yet they continue to drink sand.  Not because they want to, but because they don’t know the difference.  Survival in every season of a woman’s life requires spiritual discernment.  Shallow roots will bear no fruit. No root? No fruit.

Deep longings of my heart require diligent examination and attention.  Following the culture only produces frustration, disillusionment, exhaustion and greater dehydration.  Re-aligning my life, values, priorities using both the gift of time and energy from the One who is my Refuge and Living Water in the desert will transform my heart, soul, mind and strength.

Let Jesus teach you how to grow roots and bear fruit for Him.  Come and be still.  Come away and pray.  Come to the underground process structured to nourish your soul and cultivate the soil of your heart.  Spend a weekend away focused on spiritual growth.  The Be Still Retreat will guarantee a greater intimacy with Christ like you have never experienced before.  Are you thirsty for Living Water?  Will you extend your roots to bear more fruit for the Father?  Experience the Be Still Retreat. Learn to practice the disciplines of solitude and silence.  Grow like a tree!

There is no holiness without solitude.

This is their temple vaulted high               And here we pause with reverent eye         With silent tongue and awe-struck soul      For here we sense life’s proper goal            To be like these, straight, true and fine.      To make our world like theirs, a shrine;         Sink down, Oh traveler, on your knees,     God stands before you in these trees.
